What is Radon?

Radon is a radioactive gas produced by the natural decay of uranium in soil, rocks, and water. It can penetrate buildings through cracks in foundations and accumulate in higher concentrations, especially in enclosed spaces. Prolonged exposure to high levels of radon is dangerous because it increases the risk of lung cancer. Therefore, monitoring and reducing its concentration in residential and commercial buildings is essential.

How does CHESTER measure radon

Measurements are provided by the Radon Probe from the Czech company PIKETRONIC. It is a probe with a precision sensor based on a semiconductor photodetector. The probe has a robust design, including a platform that makes it easy to mount, for example, on a wall. The probe communicates with the CHESTER device via an RS485 bus, which can be routed via a cable. Thanks to the bus, up to 32 devices can be connected simultaneously, and really large sites can be monitored.
